About Ape Drums
On Friday, July 31, Ape Drums kicks off the Chasing Sun(Sets) 2026 series at Kashmir, unveiling their first Annual Pop-up event dedicated to a city and community. Ape Drums, born in Houston and now based in Miami as Eric Alberto-Lopez, has reshaped Caribbean rhythms into a global dance music phenomenon over the past decade.
Musical Influence
His hit single “Bashment” paved the way for the fusion of modern dancehall and electronic music, while “Mutant Brain” made waves across festival stages and popular culture, endorsed by Spike Jonze in a global Kenzo campaign.
Career Highlights
As one-third of Major Lazer since 2019, alongside Diplo and Walshy Fire, Ape Drums has been part of the Grammy-nominated era and collaborated with artists like J Balvin, Anitta, and Nicki Minaj. His solo projects, such as “GQTECH” with South African DJ Lag, delve into raw, percussive Afro tech, promising a unique sonic experience.
