Namaste! In Okinawa, the Indian community comes together to celebrate various cultural and religious events throughout the year. Some of the most prominent festivities include Diwali, the festival of lights; Holi, the colorful festival of love and spring; Navratri, a nine-night dance festival dedicated to the goddess Durga; Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala; and Eid, marking the end of Ramadan. These events are often organized by the Indian Association of Okinawa, the Okinawa Indian Cultural Society, or the local Indian temples like the Okinawa Gurudwara Sahib. On average, there are around 4-6 major Indian events held annually in Okinawa, with venues ranging from community halls to outdoor spaces adorned with traditional decorations, music, dance performances, and of course, delicious Indian cuisine.
